Ameera Khwaja

Ameera is driven by the belief that healthcare systems can and should work better for the people they serve. After spending the past year and a half working in an administrative role at Southlake's Magna Regional Cancer Centre, she has seen firsthand how communication gaps, coordination challenges, and system inefficiencies can directly shape a patient's experience.

Now in her fourth year of Health Studies at York University, Ameera has developed a strong interest in health policy and integrated health systems. Her studies have given her a critical framework for understanding how healthcare systems are designed, why challenges may persist, and what it takes to create meaningful change that leads to better patient care.

Through volunteer experiences across oncology and emergency care settings, as well as leadership roles with a variety of purpose-driven clubs on campus, Ameera has continued to develop her commitment to health equity and advocacy. She is passionate about creating opportunities for others to contribute, share their perspectives, and help drive positive change in healthcare.

As an Emerging Scholar with Confluence Health Communication, Ameera is excited to build on these experiences and learn directly from a team that shares her belief that meaningful healthcare transformation begins with people. She hopes to deepen her understanding of how effective communication, collaboration, and human-centered thinking can help create healthcare systems that better serve both patients and those who care for them.
